TIDAL MARSHES

Tidal marshes can be found along protected coastlines in middle and high latitudes worldwide.

They are coastal wetlands which accumulate mineral sediment and organic material, then flood with salty water brought in by the tides.

Both saltwater and freshwater tidal marshes serve important functions:

Tidal Marshes Impact on the Ecosystem

Support biodiversity by offering shelter and nesting sites for migratory waterbirds

They buffer stormy seas and slow shoreline erosion.

Tidal marshes absorb excess nutrients through plants.
